Quit Smoking without Gaining Weight

Many smokers are afraid to quit for fear of gaining weight. On average, quitters gain only about 5 pounds. However, there are many tips you can follow to prevent gaining any weight after you stop smoking.  There may be an urge to satisfy your oral fixation after quitting, and you may feel the urge to put something in your mouth .

Instead of eating, sugar free gum may satisfy this need without any extra calories.  Another useful tip is to snack on healthy items such as carrots or celery. It is highly unlikely that you will gain weight by eating several celery sticks daily.

Try starting an exercise program after consulting with your physician. Since you probably stopped smoking for the health benefits, think of all the extra benefit you may get from exercise. If you exercised while smoking, you’ll probably find that your exercise tolerance and capacity are much improved since quitting.

Exercise is also a great way to release extra tension and deal with stress.

Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health.  It is also an opportunity to improve your nutrition, start an exercise program and enhance your overall wellness.
